The mayor of a Western Kentucky city is demanding answers after he reportedly found a woman in his basement.

Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson said he found the woman Wednesday morning after he heard noises and smelled cigarette smoke outside of one of his homes.

The house, which was under renovation, had a cellar built into the domicile. Traces of blood and a bag containing women’s leggings.

The woman allegedly claimed that she was “hiding from someone” before fleeing.

The Associate Press reports that Wilkerson has no idea who the woman was, but noted that she had dark hair. Furthermore, he insists that he did not lock her in the cellar.

Bowling Green Police have yet to identify a suspect.
