A newly released bodycam video shows the dangers police officers are facing, even during a simple traffic stop.
According to WFSB, a Bridgeport, Connecticut man is facing assault charges after he threw a chemical on a police officer during a traffic stop.
The incident happened in Brooklyn and the officer injured is a part of the NYPD.
In the video, the officer calmly comes up to the driver of the vehicle and asks for his licenses and registration. At first the man says he doesn’t have them. After the officer makes a comment about the tint of his windows, the driver then says his wallet is underneath his seat and needs to open the door to retrieve it. As the door opens the man then throws a clear liquid at the officer.
You can hear the officer back up and start to scream in pain.
The driver then sped off while the other officer attended to his partner.
NYPD did find the driver later on. When they did, they were greeted with a Molotov cocktail hurled at them.
Police have not identified the chemical used on the officer.
