A Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputy was almost lost if not for his quick-thinking partner and the availability of the drug Narcan.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, a reckless driver caused a hit-and-run and almost multiple other crashes before pulling off to the side of road on August 10th. Deputies found the driver, George Clemons, in the driver seat with druges, an empty Bud Light can, and other alcoholic beverages all in plain view.
Deputy Nick Huzior began performing a field drug test on the items in the vehicle and became lightheaded and requested Deputy Kyle Gaddie to call for EMS.
Gaddie made the call and grabbed a bottle of Narcan to administer to Huzior.
After Huzior began to positively respond to the first dose of Narcan, Gaddie gave Huzior a second dose.
EMS then arrived and took Huzior to the hospital, where his blood screen tested positive for Fentanyl. He has since been released and is recovering at home.
Clemons was arrested and charged with possession of Fentanyl, Cocaine, Marijuana, Suboxone, and other drug paraphernalia, along with several traffic violations. He’s being held on a $25,500 bond.
“What happened yesterday is a perfect example of the dangers law enforcement face each and every day from poison on the streets,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Thankfully, our deputies are well trained and equipped with Narcan which allowed DFC Gaddie to potentially save the life of a fellow deputy. I would also like to thank the Good Samaritans who stopped to check on Deputy Huzior and DFC Gaddie while they were waiting for EMS as well as Flagler County Fire Rescue and AdventHealth Palm Coast for taking care of him.”
