A Florida sheriff’s deputy was forced to open fire on a woman who stabbed him in the neck in the aftermath of a car wreck.
The St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office Deputy, identified as Cody Colangelo, was answering a call on Wednesday regarding a rollover crash.
Upon arrival to the scene, the deputy noticed the vehicle was unoccupied, and began a search.
Upon questioning, witnesses revealed that 21-year-old Leigha M. Day had fled the vehicle and was hiding in an embankment.
Day spoke with deputies and was ordered to return to the road, but stabbed Colangelo in the neck, just missing a major artery.
Colangelo opened fire, but missed and eventually gave chase after Day.
Day was ultimately captured and arrested for attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.

According to WFLA, Colangelo is a 22-year-old deputy who only recently began serving St. Lucie County.
