A tense standoff between a man with a gun and seven Athens-Clarke County Police officers turned into a fatal officer-involved shooting over the weekend.
The department just released the body camera video of the incident.
An officer gave 34-Thomas Swinford plenty of warnings. He told him repeatedly to drop the gun.
The video shows Swinford approaching the officers and then raising his gun toward them, that’s when they opened fire.
Turns out that gun in Swinford’s hands was an airsoft gun, and it never posed any real threat.
According to WSB-TV, the standoff started with a domestic dispute on Friday.
Swinford was a convicted felon who was not legally allowed to own a gun.
