A Nebraska police officer from Omaha was engaged by a gang member on Tuesday.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said that several officers -including OPD Officer Ken Fortune- were involved in a traffic stop-turned shooting.

Body camera footage shoes 36-year-old John Ezell pointing a revolver at police , leaping the vehicle as he opened fire.

Ezek struck Fortune in the shoulder area, the bullet taking out a vest-mounted radio microphone before it eventually found its way into his body. During the encounter, police returned fire and struck Ezell.

Wounded but undeterred, Fortune managed to cuff a second suspect.

A felon and known gangbanger who is prohibited from owning firearms, Ezell is currently in the hospital but will be taken into custody after release. The 36-year-old is facing some serious charges, including two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony. At the time of the shooting, he was on probation for unlawful transport of a firearm.

According to the Daily Mail, the second suspect -identified as Brandon Richey- is being charged with accessory to a felony and felony flight to avoid arrest.

Chief Schmaderer said in a statement that “body-worn camera footage clearly shows the officers’ use of deadly force to be justified.”

The three officers involved are currently on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing.
