Daring footage of a shootout that took place earlier this year between a drug dealer and a Las Cruces Police Officer has been released, giving a first-person perspective to the hazards of the profession.
The incident, which surrounded the murder of a New Mexico State Trooper, was seen from the lapel camera of Las Cruces Police Officer Adrian De La Garza.
De La Garza, who had been in pursuit of suspect Omar Felix Cueva, executed a PIT maneuver to force Cueva to stop.
Both men dismounted from their vehicles and engaged each other, trading volleys.
In the firefight, the officer was hit in the bicep but continued to return fire.
Eventually, Cueva was killed in a hail of bullets.
According to KFOX14, Cueva was pursued after he shot and killed New Mexico State Police Trooper Darian Jarrott during a traffic stop.
