A Florida deputy is grateful after two concerned citizens came to his aid in a traffic stop gone violently awry.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputy Zimmerer was patrolling the Deltona area when a black F150 nearly struck his cruiser.
Performing a standard traffic stop, the deputy then found suspect Frank Padilla Velez spilled out of his vehicle and began acting erratically.
In response, the deputy attempted to handcuff the suspect, only to find himself fighting for his life.
Unwilling to be restrained, Padilla Velez began striking the deputy.
To make matters worse, Padilla Velez’ dog exited the vehicle as well, attempting to protect his owner.
Fortunately for the deputy, two citizens swooped in to assist, securing the rogue animal and helping Zimmerer get control over the situation.
Video and an account was released by the VCSO and thanks were extended to those involved.
Padilla Velez was charged with resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, careless driving and driving with an expired registration.
