Two states Maine and Sanders’ home state of Vermont, currently offers a way for felons to restore their voting rights, as well as allow them to vote if they are in prison.
Sanders told the Des Moines Register he sees felons pay the price for their crime by being locked away, but he argues that they are still American and should still keep their right to vote.
Iowa is currently debating a proposal that would allow felons to have their voting rights restored if they meet certain requirements.
