Atlanta PD will no longer ask recruits about marijuana use

Do you want to become a police officer, but won’t be able to pass a drug test? Good news if you live in the Atlanta area, the police department says it will no longer ask you if you’ve smoked pot within the last two years.

According to WSB-TV, the Atlanta Police Department decided to make the change because it was losing too many qualified candidates.

The department asks candidates whether they have used the drug within the last two years.

This year alone the department has turned away at least 10 qualified applicants because they answered ‘yes’ to the question.

The department spokesperson says that if hired the officer is brought in as a recruit they cannot smoke marijuana or use any other illegal drug upon hire.

Marijuana is legal in Georgia for medical reasons but is not for recreational use.
