A police officer in Missouri was shot earlier this week during a prisoner transport, and her life was spared thanks to an armed citizen who was willing to put themselves in harm’s way.

The Trenton Police officer was in a compromising situation after the prisoner managed to get into the front seat of the officer’s car and take her weapon, shooting her in the stomach.

The prisoner then attempted to force the officer to drive them to a location of their choosing but was spotted by a group of bystanders that included at least one armed person.

According to KCTV5, the group pinned the prisoner down while the armed citizen held a gun to his head.

The officer, identified as Jasmine Diab, is alive but is currently unable to do more than speak or blink.

Diab is a single mother of a 4-year-old daughter.
