An Arkansas teacher was sentenced to four months in jail and a decade of probation after she admitted to sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Alisa Andrews, a resident of Rogers, pleaded guilty to sexual assault in a courtroom on Monday.

A teacher through a home school education program at a local church and a director for a youth community theater group, the 52-year-old had access to many minors during her tenure.

Andrews was outed after a 17-year-old approached members of the Rogers Police Department, stating that she and Andrews were having a sexual relationship and that she knew it was immoral.

Andrews was reportedly the teenager’s biology teacher in the previous semester.

“I know now that none of this is my fault, and I want you to know that you have no power over me any more,” Deputy Prosecutor Sara Rhinehart read from a testimony by the youth. “I’m no longer the broken girl I was. You don’t know anything about the person I am today, and you never will. I hope you know I don’t forgive you, and I hope I never do.”

The arrest took place in October of 2019, but court proceedings had dragged on until present year.

According to Arkansas Online, Andrews must now register as a sex offender.
