An Albuquerque police officer unknowingly shot a fellow officer during an undercover narcotics operation Friday afternoon. The officer was unaware the shooting victim was an undercover detective.
The incident took place around 11:40 a.m. near Central and Tramway, and both officers were in plain clothes, he said. The officer who was shot underwent surgery and is in critical condition, Eden said during a 3:30 p.m. press conference that was attended by Mayor Richard Berry.
Dozens of officers went to UNMH to support the wounded detective and his family. There has been no recent update on the detective, the last known information was that he was still critical.
