Albuquerque officer fighting for his life after being shot multiple times, suspect in custody

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The following is the latest in the shooting of an Albuquerque police officer, who was critically wounded during what initial reports say was a traffic stop:

Albuquerque, New Mexico, police have identified the man arrested in a shooting that critically wounded a police officer.


7:45 a.m.

Police identified the suspect in a tweet early Thursday as 34-year-old Davon Lymon. It’s not immediately clear whether Lymon has an attorney.

The eight-year veteran officer underwent surgery Wednesday night after being shot multiple times. The officer’s name has not been released and police did not immediately respond Thursday for an update on the officer’s condition.

The arrest was announced several hours after the shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. by a Walgreen’s in the eastern part of the city near Interstate 40.

Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden says the initial investigation shows that the officer was shot during a traffic stop.

Police say a suspect has been arrested in a shooting that left an Albuquerque officer critically wounded.

The eight-year veteran officer underwent surgery Wednesday night after being shot multiple times.

Police said early Thursday that a suspect in the shooting was in custody, but no other details on the arrest were immediately available.

The announcement came after contingents of officers spread out in eastern Albuquerque hunting for a suspect after the officer was wounded.

The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. by a Walgreen’s in the eastern part of the city near Interstate 40.
