A police officer who was fired for failing to do his job is now trying to get his job back.
According to KTNV, Cordell Hendrex froze while in the hallway one floor below where a gunman was firing bullets into the Harvest Music Festival crowd in what has become the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The police union argues the point, instead, it says Hendrex was following his training.
He was there on the 31st floor, one below the shooter, with his partner, who was an officer trainee.
Police guidelines call for a four-person team to engage an active shooter.
Hendrex eventually made it to the 32nd floor and was giving Intel, though he never engaged the shooter.
The union has filed an appeal through arbitration and Hendrex could know his fate within the next 60 days.
He had been fired back in March.
