Despite being 85 years of age, Don Lutz is still the kind of man who keeps his gun under his pillow.
This came in handy for the elderly Pennsylvania man, a US Army veteran, when he was attacked and forced to engage two intruders who burst into his Lawrence County home on Friday morning- with only one of the suspects managing to escape alive.
“I just fired one. It was in the dark. He attacked me and he was up close and I shot him,” Lutz said, recalling the 1:30 AM event that started as a “bump in the night.”
“They jumped me and we both went on the floor. I scuffled with them on the floor and the one guy rolled over dead and the other guy, he jumped up and went out the door.”
Police are searching for the second man, who may or may not be wounded.
“The other one, maybe the bullet hit him, too. I don’t know. I hope so,” Lutz said.
According to WPXI, old man Lutz is a little sore from the altercation but is otherwise in high spirits.
Police believe the octogenarian was targeted because of his age, which is not out of the question- elderly people are often targeted for home invasions because of their perceived inability to fight back.
