Police in DeKalb County, Georgia are searching for the thieves who made off with more than $6,000 worth of police equipment.

Several concealment vests, a tactical vest and a Taser were taken from a deputy’s unmarked squad car, outside his home in Lithonia.

Sheriff Jeffrey Mann said, “A 50-pound SWAT ballistic shield, used to enter potentially dangerous situations where weapons are likely to be used, was also stolen.”

Officers fear the equipment could fall into the wrong hands to be used against them, or worse, to illegally arrest others or prevent deputies from arresting potential criminals.

AJC.com reports that after the thieves struck on Monday, the trunk of the squad car was found opened.

The sheriff’s office is asking members of the public to contact them if they have any information that may help lead to an arrest.
