The NYPD is investigating a possible hate crime against an elderly Asian man, in what has been called an unprovoked attack.
On Tuesday night, the 56-year-old was about to enter the East Broadway subway station along the F line, on the Lower East Side when he was accosted by a stranger.
The man was savagely beaten to the ground before the assailant made good his escape, jumping a turnstile.
Security footage shows what appears to be a black male wearing a red bandanna and a dark baseball cap.
EMS eventually came and took the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for a laceration to his lip, a black eye and swelling to his head.
According to PIX11, a rash of attacks against Asian people in NYC are on the rise, with little to no explanation as to why.
The NYPD released the surveillance footage in hopes of bringing the attacker to justice.
