Officers in one of the largest cities in the United States say they’ve had enough of the backlash from the George Floyd incident and are retiring en mass.
According to the NY Post, more than 270 NYPD officers have submitted paperwork to retire in the month since George Floyd’s death.
Along with the retirements, the NYPD is also facing a $1 billion budget reduction as “defunding the police” becomes the norm in most major cities.
The Police Benevolent Association president for the NYPD says officers are at their breaking point as protests continue and public sentiment wains.
Officers are now worried that one bad incident could not only cost them their jobs, but possibly put them behind bars.
