A female corrections officer in Tennessee has been charged with having sex with an inmate— only ten months after starting at the penitentiary.
Akira Lequan Jones, who is only 20 years of age, was placed on administrative leave last month after she was charged with a Class E Felony.
The felonious charge surrounds sexual contact with prisoners and resulted in Jones being removed from her duties.
Jones, who was arrested on Tuesday, is employed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, which is based out of Memphis.
According to officials, the law enforcement agency received a complaint in late December regarding Jones having inappropriate sexual contact with at least one of the inmates.
“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office instructs all personnel, at hire and at in-service, that sexual contact between an officer and detainee is a criminal act that will lead to prosecution and termination,” the SCSCO said in a statement.
One of the most dangerous large cities in the United States, Memphis makes up a considerable percentage of overall violent crime in Tennessee.
Another thing Memphis —and particularly Shelby County— is known for is the Shelby County Jail, AKA “201 Poplar,” which has previously come under fire for its dismal living conditions.
The jail is known for mold, rats, and unrolling inmates, who are infamous for throwing feces.
