2 San Diego police officers shot; one killed, one in surgery

San Diego police said they arrested one person and are looking for other possible suspects after the shooting of two officers, one fatally.

The shooting took place about 11 p.m. Thursday near downtown. The San Diego Police Department offered few details about what led to the shootings on Twitter.

“It is with a very sad heart that we announce the death of one of our officers tonight. Pray for his family,” one of the tweets said.

The condition of the second officer was unknown, though the department reported he was in surgery Friday morning. Police did not reveal the names of the two officers.

Police said they arrested one person but were searching the area for more possible suspects. They urged residents in the area to stay inside their homes.

This is a developing story.
